Bohlsen is one of the very old mill locations in Lower Saxony. The documented history of the water mill goes back to the 13th century, more precisely: in 1265 a mill in Bohlsens was first mentioned in a document.

When the mill was sold to the miller on long-term lease in 1753, an inventory was drawn up. From this it can be seen that the mill also had an oil and baking mill (for processing the flax fibers), a baking house, agriculture and a bee fence. Later, the mill also acquired the first liquor license in town.
