Fava is the predominantly Mediterranean dish and in fasting periods is the ideal substitute for meat.
Fava is extremely rich in nutrients, necessary for the good functioning of our body. At the same time, its consumption adds little calories to us.
Furthermore, it is a good source of vitamin B1 (thiamine), iron, copper, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. Approximately 1/4 of the bean cup supplies the body, with 10 to 19%, of the recommended amount of the above nutrients.
Fava is also an excellent source of folic acid and manganese, as about ¼ of the bean meal can provide us with 20% of the recommended amount of these nutrients. Folic acid significantly supports the functioning of our immune system, the functioning of the heart, and contributes to the formation of blood vessels.
Finally, fava helps in good bowel function, protects against colorectal cancer, and also helps maintain proper blood sugar levels. It is a food that does not contain any sodium and this makes it ideal for people with high blood pressure
